Janice was involved in a very serious road traffic accident on 30 May 2003. A
motor vehicle left the carriageway and collided with her (and
others) as she walked down the stairs at the exit of Kew
Underground Station.
Janice sustained very serious injuries, including a
laceration to the lateral aspect of the lower shin, an extensive
degloving injury to the medial aspect of the right lower leg,
grossly compound communicated fractures to the shafts of the left
tibia and fibula with extensive skin and soft tissue
damage.
Janice was a very successful teacher. She was Head of Art
at a well respected school and in a job in which she was happy and
fulfilled. Unfortunately, as a result of the accident, Janice
was no longer able to work in her chosen profession.
Initially, Janice instructed other solicitors
in the North of England, but later transferred the case
to Paul McNeil.
Paul eventually negotiated a settlement
worth £290,000 in November 2006. The case was taken on a
no win no fee basis.
After the case, Janice said:
“There was another injured party at the time
of my accident and she suggested I contact Field Fisher Waterhouse,
and she gave a particularly high recommendation for Paul McNeil who
was dealing with her case.
"I put off following her advice for two
reasons: living in the North of England I felt I was too far away
and it also meant going back to the place where the accident had
happened.
"From the word go I felt that Paul was compassionate and was
particularly encouraged when he suggested that we should meet so
that I could decide if I thought he was suitable.
"I feel it is very important to emphasise the distinction
between the legal view on a situation like this and the fact that
there is a process to be gone through and the feelings legal
representative has to take a dispassionate view. It is so important
that the client feels relevance to the actual case. Paul met
all these criteria for me.
"My husband and I feel that Paul achieved the best possible
settlement for us and even though we robbed him of the opportunity
of doing what no doubt he does so well (i.e. going to Court to
achieve what he thought we were due), he at no time tried to
pressurise us into a decision.
"I would unswervingly and without any hesitation recommend
Paul McNeil. His professionalism was tempered by a sense of
compassion and humanity that made me feel listened to and
individual.
"I know he had my best interests in mind, but he also made me
feel that both my husband and I trusted him completely, not
something we had felt with our previous encounters with
solicitors.”
