On 16 December 2008 a Judge at the High Court awarded more than
£250,000 in compensation to a widow whose husband was described as
‘proud and stoical’. Mr John Lambie was just 62 in November
2006 when he died from mesothelioma.
His widow, Jane Beesley, who has now re-married,
nursed him during his illness at home. The Judge awarded
£25,000 for the care she gave to her dying husband.
The total award, which included interest, was
£253,310. This includes £72,000 for pain and suffering, one of the
highest awards in this type of case; and £25,000 for care and
assistance, which is the highest sum ever awarded in a mesothelioma
case.
This judgement has received international
coverage, with interest being expressed from all over London,
as well as far as Australia.

“I would like to thank yourself and your colleagues for the
excellent case you put together for John. I promised to keep
going if he didn’t manage it to the end. Miss Bains took over
changing numbers, names, etc. This was all completed in an
excellent way. We went to court on 4 December; again Miss Bains was
excellent booking hotel, phoning to make sure all was ok.
I have been so pleased with the way the
company worked. I have passed on the name ‘Field Fisher Waterhouse’
to others. Thanks again to you all very much and I know that comes
from John also.”
Mrs Jane Beesley
