Mark Bowman acted for Chinese
nationals, Mr and Mrs Shen, following a road
traffic collision that took place in London in December 2005.
Mr and Mrs Shen were on holiday in London and were seated in the
back of a taxi when the Defendant negligently drove out from a
side road, colliding with their vehicle.
Mr Shen suffered orthopaedic and psychiatric injuries and Mrs
Shen suffered severe facial and head injuries as well as a
psychiatric injury.
Liability was admitted and we were able to secure early interim
payments on behalf of both clients.
The claim was however complicated
due to Mrs Shen not speaking any English and Mr Shen only speaking
limited English.
We were able to arrange for the
clients, who had returned home to Shanghai following their
discharge from hospital in London, to be examined by medical
experts in Hong Kong as opposed to them having to return to
England, which they were reluctant to do due to their previous
experience.
Following exchange of the reports
we were able to secure the combined sum of £75,000 in damages for
Mr and Mrs Shen. We acted under the terms of a
No Win No Fee Agreement (CFA) and Mr and Mrs
Shen did not pay any legal fees or costs.
Following the conclusion of the
claim Mr Shen commented:

in London. The after effects can still be found on us
