Mark
Bowman recovered damages for Richard, a cyclist, who was
involved in a serious road traffic accident in central London, on
16 January 2011.
Richard, a paediatric doctor at The
Evelina Children's Hospital in London, was cycling to work when he
was hit by a car and knocked from his bicycle.
Richard was taken by ambulance to St
Thomas' Hospital in London. He was diagnosed as suffering from a
depressed fracture of the left tibia and the lateral tibial
plateau.
Richard required a lengthy operation
in which a metal plate and 8 metal screws were inserted into his
left knee, and shards of bone, putty and glue were used to build up
the hole in his tibia.
Richard remained an in-patient for 3
days before being discharged in a wheelchair.
Over the following months Richard
required extensive care and support, before being able to return to
full time work in June 2011.
Richard will require a further
operation in September or October 2011 in which the metal plate and
metal screws will be removed from his left knee.
There is a risk that Richard will
suffer from osteoarthritis and that he will require a knee
replacement operation in the future. He will require further
physiotherapy in the future.
Following discussions with the
defendant insurers in which an initial offer of £75,000 was
received, we were able to secure a settlement of £135,000. Richard,
which he was delighted to accept in full and final settlement of
his claim.
At the conclusion of the claim
Richard said:
"As a person who was initially
reluctant to seek compensation I was pleasantly surprised by the
whole process.
"Mark Bowman and the team ensured I
had complete clarity at every step of the way.
"The long protracted case that I
feared never materialised and the time consuming form-filling I
expected was non-existent. Mark came highly recommended and lived
up to his excellent reputation."
