We recovered compensation for David’s family following
his death from mesothelioma in August
2009.
David, who was married with grown up children, had previously
worked at D. A. Moody and Company Limited in 1966 and 1967. His
work at the company involved cutting asbestos sheets to size. He
was not advised of the dangers of working with asbestos.
As a result of the exposure to asbestos David contracted
mesothelioma in 2009. Ten years before he
contracted mesothelioma David was diagnosed with pleural plaques.
Before he was diagnosed with mesothelioma, his family noticed that he was
slowing down. Routine jobs that should have taken him a day were
now taking him a week to finish. He put it down to age but after he
was diagnosed with mesothelioma it was clear that the condition was
affecting his ability to work. If David didn’t have mesothelioma he would have continued working for a
number of years.
As the illness and his symptoms worsened, David had to give up
his work as a builder and decorator, which he loved. He was also
unable to carry out any DIY work or chores at home that he had
previously carried out.
David was very independent and hated relying on others to take
care of him during his illness. From February 2009 he required full
time care and he died from his illness in August 2009.
Following his death, David’s wife, Valerie, instructed Dushal Mehta to pursue a mesothelioma claim
against David’s former employers. Dushal investigated the case on a
no win, no fee basis.
Dushal negotiated a settlement of more than £160,000 following
negotiations with the defendant solicitors.
Valerie was happy to accept this compensation and was
pleased by Dushal's work. Valerie said she received "a very friendly service and nothing was too
much trouble if I needed any information."
